| We have long been a family that admires Trees. We respect them for the power they have within our environment. We understand what they mean to all of us. Our family has been privileged to have a cottage that abides upon the top of a hill, within a great forest - Michigan’s Manistee National Forrest - for the last 26 years. We call it - Summer Hill Acres. To swing on the rope swing, or wander the woodland paths, is to travel back in time to a point when age didn't matter - when Time was still an abstract. To sit around a fire and reclaim old memories – to laze on the deck that has a Tree growing right through the middle of it, conscious of nothing but the Sun peering through the leaves. These are the influences that have shaped our lives. We know what it means to be connected to the land. To respect and revel in the forces that surround us all on a daily basis. We have trekked out into the woods every Spring and identified the storm-fallen Trees hindering our well-worn paths. For years, we have taken the fallen parts and pieces of friends home to be a part of our many festive bonfires. As we developed Visions In Wood, we recognized that we could continue to preserve Nature as we had, as well as, utilize the material that lay before us. These fallen friends could become a part of our Vision. They could continue their grandeur in a new form - become again, a majestic being that affects the lives of those around it. We decided, that any time we could harvest lumber from fallen Trees on our land, we would. When a neighbor or friend had a Tree fall in a storm, we would make every effort to utilize the essence of that being into our art, so that its life could carry on. As I create from this medium that I respect and cherish so much, I am diligent in putting back as much as I am able. Therefore, we would like for you to take a moment and find out how you might help in this cause. A part of our profits are put back into that which we love so much. We are proud to support the Arbor Day Foundation and hope that you might consider this a worthy cause as well. Please take a moment and visit their site and then spread the word about the magnificence of the Trees that surround and support us. Never forget your Vision. |
