VISIONS IN WOOD
Visions In Wood evolved in early 2003. I was several years into my retirement and
had been looking for something to do that didn't involve more labor than my,
well-worn joints could handle. Also, my wife was recovering from breast cancer and I
wanted the opportunity to stay home and be close to her.
Happily, she is now, a five year survivor and our hearts go out to all dealing with this
incredible challenge. This experience changed the lives of my whole family and we
have decided to donate a percentage of our profits to the Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation.
I had a satisfying, 25 year career with the Lansing Fire Department, all the while,
running my own painting and handyman business.
As I neared retirement age, I held the rank of Captain, and was an acting Battalion
Chief, as well. I had earned a reputation as a knowledgeable, fair, hard working, 'do it
right' leader.
The men and women under my charge respected me and, heeded my orders because
they knew them to be sound. They had faith in me to call the play and I trusted them
to carry it out.
This work ethic carried over into my secondary business as well. My clients learned
that I was an honest, enthusiastic entrepreneur and eventually, I found myself
working for many of my original customers' children.
I had past a generational mark. I had made a name for myself. A name that people
trusted. Relied upon. Told their friends about.
With my handyman business, I had gathered such a substantial customer base and
developed so many good friendships, that I found it hard to quit. However, after
having both knees and my shoulder operated on, I decided it was time to take my
families advice and move on. They had been telling me for years to concentrate on my
love of woodworking and cabinetry.
I decided to act on their advice and elevate it from a hobby to a professional
business. With their help and support, Visions In Wood became a reality. I could still
serve my customers and fulfill their needs, only now, it would be in a different and
more creative way.
I set to the task of designing a basic line of functional and appealing merchandise,
the result was many practical items, skillfully designed to accentuate the varied decor
of any home - handcrafted products that people would be proud to own.
My work soon gained a following from its exposure at the many fine art shows I
participate in. ( See a Visions In Wood Show)
My initial pieces, as well as projects I have crafted for my home, or for my family and
friends, were sought after. I was commissioned for a variety of custom items, designed
and built to fit a specific need or want.
I knew, then, that I had an avenue with which to share my creativity with others.
I knew, then, that this is where my passion lies.
I knew it was time to share my Vision.
Visions In Wood offers many products, all made from different types of wood.
Though the cost of lumber varies from species to species, overall, we try to keep the
cost as low as possible.
Our standard Catalog pieces are priced to be as affordable as possible.
Our custom pieces will, however, vary in price, depending upon the type of wood you
select, as well as, the overall complexity of the design requested.
Here, I offer a way for everyone to appreciate and acknowledge the beauty and
grandeur of a finely crafted piece of Wood Art.
Thank you for visiting and be true to your Vision.
